Wedding Decoration Ideas

There is so much to think about when planning your dream wedding and having a good selection of wedding decoration ideas will help create the wonderful atmosphere you want for your big day. One of the first things guests will notice when they attend your wedding ceremony and reception are the decorations.

Every bride and groom wants to have lovely, attractive decorations which capture the mood of the occasion and are memorable to everyone who attends. They also help create beautiful photographs and make the whole day and memories more special.

Usually, the task of choosing the wedding decorations is delegated to the bride and the female members of the family and entourage. However it is a great idea not to forget that the groom should also be given the opportunity to help choose, making him more of a part of the build up to the actual wedding day. Of course the groom may be more than happy to let the ladies make the decisions and just come up with the occasional idea.

Here are some wedding decoration ideas and tips to consider when deciding on what you wish to use at your wedding:

What type of ambience do you want to create?

Will your wedding be more formal or casual? Do you want it to be traditional or contemporary?

This will help in deciding what candles, flowers, balloons and other style of decorations for your venues.

Colour scheme and theme.

Consider the main colour you wish to have for the decorations. This may be your favourite colour, maybe it can be associated with a hobby or is preferred during the season you have set the wedding. Make sure that the colour of the decorations go well with the overall surroundings.. You may wish your wedding to follow a theme, both with colour and style.

Wedding location.

Take pictures of the wedding location as early as possible so that you can check them at your leisure whilst considering your wedding decoration ideas.

What Time of Day is Your Wedding?

Usually, decorations can only be set at the church and reception within a few hours prior to the event. It is wise to consider decorations that don't take to much time to set up. Another thing to consider and very often forgotten, (although most venue organisers will remind you) is the decorations should be taken down very soon after the event.

How Many Guests are you Expecting?

Consider how many will be attending the wedding reception and the size of the venue. Will the number of guests allow for the size and type of decorations you have planned, for example if you are using floor decorations, does that allow sufficient room for your guests to move freely without bumping into them ( Please note – Take into consideration how much they may have had to drink).

If you have a large number of guests, you may just want to set-up floor decorations near the stage and dance floor where most of the ceremonies will take place. Also, you may want to decide on smaller finer detailed table decorations.

Always keep in mind any children who will be attending the wedding and reception. Depending on their age they may get bored during the ceremonies and start playing with the decorations which could cause a bit of a mess. Go for decorations that are more resilient.

Another idea, if there are several children as guests, you may have an area designated just for them. This will let them play and use up that extra energy, plus they can interact with other children, allowing the adults to enjoy the proceeding with less stress.

Know Your Budget.

Take time when you choose your decorations and check the prices with a number of suppliers. By shopping around you can often save quite a bit of money. Choosing more than one of the wedding decorating ideas mentioned, as long as they are carefully applied, can make a ceremony and reception look beautiful and stylish.

It is not necessary to buy a great array of decorations. As the saying goes – 'often simple is best' and much less stressful to set up. Most professional wedding decoration suppliers can advise you on vases, mirrors, table centerpieces, dried flower arrangements, arch ways, pedestals and plants that will be used for your big day. Just by adding a few candles, laces and fresh flowers will make your wedding and reception absolutely gorgeous.

A great tip that will help keep the budget in check, is to contact the wedding venue director and find out if there are other weddings taking place on the same day. If there are you may want to speak with the couple that will be using the venue just before or after you. They may well agree with your decorating ideas or add some of their own, and agree to split the decorating expenses with you.
